In August, Pham Nhat Vuong closed an unconvincing merger with a blank-cheque company that bestowed a $23 billion market value on his Tesla (TSLA.O) wannabe VinFast . There are no details of sales in the United States, a key target market where it has been burdened by poor reviews. Without some impressive progress outside of Vietnam, though, the EV company’s stock is going nowhere fast.

HANOI, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Heavy rain from a tropical depression hit northern and north-central Vietnam, causing flooding that halted traffic in the capital Hanoi and sparked warnings of landslides on Thursday. Some Hanoi districts recorded up to 250 mm (10 inches) of rain on Thursday morning, according to the national weather centre. Downpours have pounded Hanoi since early Thursday morning, submerging streets, Reuters witnesses said, with traffic turning chaotic at intersections and flood waters rising calf-high in some districts. REUTERS/Thinh NguyenCAO LANH CITY, Vietnam, March 29 (Reuters) - On her trusty motorcycle, Vietnamese artist Dang Ai Viet travels around the Southeast Asian country in a quest to ensure that the thousands of women who suffered the loss of two or more loved ones during the Vietnam War are not forgotten. The 75-year-old has painted the portraits of 2,765 of the women, who are part of a group known in Vietnam as "heroic mothers", in recognition of their sacrifice during the war that ended in 1975. During the war, Viet was a guerrilla in the Mekong Delta for the Viet Cong, fighters who backed North Vietnam in the battle against the government of the then South Vietnam and its main ally, the United States. Some researchers have estimated about 3.8 million people were killed during the war, though estimates of the toll vary.

REUTERS/Thinh NguyenHANOI (Reuters) - Vietnam’s electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast is recalling 2,781 of its sports utility model VF8 sold in the domestic market to check and replace the bolt connecting the front brake caliper to the knuckle, the company said on Saturday. VinFast, which began operations in 2019, is gearing up to expand in the United States where it hopes to compete with legacy automakers. The company delivered over 4,000 EVs to customers domestically in December, more than half of which were the sports utility VF8 model. VinFast said it has not recorded any breakdowns or complaints from customers about the loosen bolt that may cause trouble to the brake.
HANOI, Jan 20 (Reuters) - As China, Japan and other East Asian countries prepare to celebrate the start of the Lunar Year of the Rabbit on Sunday, the people of Vietnam will be an exception - welcoming instead the Year of the Cat. There is no official explanation for when and why the Vietnamese embraced the cat instead of the rabbit. "It doesn't have the same power as a cat", Hanoi resident, Ngo Quy Dung, said of the rabbit, as he proudly noted that he was born 60 years ago in the Year of the Cat. Another resident of Hanoi, Nguyen Kim Chi, 64, agreed. "The cat looks more majestic because it also resembles a little tiger," she said, while taking photographs besides a large cat statue at the Central Park in the capital.
